Line of treadmills at a gym

Maybe you’ve just relocated to Savannah and are looking for a gym to join that parallels the experience of your previous one. Or, perhaps you’re just starting your fitness journey and are looking into getting a gym membership after years of living in Savannah. Whatever the case may be, you can explore some of the best gyms in Savannah below.

Fitness On Broughton

Fitness on Broughton is a comprehensive gym on East Broughton Street. If you want to get in an early-morning workout before you have to head to work on the weekdays, you can come in as early as 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. You can also come in after a particularly long day at the office, as this gym doesn’t close until 9 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, you can get in your workout anytime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

This gym is home to plenty of free weights, strength-training machines, and cardio machines for you to use on your own. There’s also a group fitness and functional movement studio where group classes take place. Fitness on Broughton employs qualified fitness instructors to lead classes seven days a week, so you’ll always have the option to partake in an organized session. If you’re on a time crunch and want to squeeze in a quick workout during the day, you can come in for the 30-minute Lunch Crunch workout.

You can also enjoy classes like Core and More, which is a 60-minute Pilates class that focuses on balance training and engaging your core. When you finish your workout or class, you can head to the locker room for full use of the showers, steam rooms, and dry saunas.

Alvin’s Gym

Alvin’s Gym is a smaller gym in Savannah, and it’s located on Water’s Avenue behind Street Beats. The smaller environment is perfect for individuals who are newer to the gym, as the equipment will seem less overwhelming. It’s also rarely crowded, meaning you can access the equipment you want without having to wait for other people to be finished with their turns. While you’re here, you can get in a full-body workout thanks to the accessibility of barbells, free weights, treadmills, ellipticals, and other equipment.

As far as plans go, you’ll have ample choices so you can only pay for what you need. There are individual plans that let you access all cardio and strength equipment and the on-site lockers. If you want to try the gym out a few times to see if it’s right for you, you can go for just $8 a day. You can also pay for plans on a weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. There are even three-month and six-month rates.

If you plan to get in shape with your family, you can also sign up for the discounted family rates that anyone with the same last name and home address can use. Still, there are special discounted rates for law enforcement officers, military members, and students.

River Drive Crossfit

River Drive CrossFit is a CrossFit gym in Savannah, and it’s ideal for individuals who’d like to get into CrossFit. Currently, the two trainers who work here are Trent and Danielle Williams, both of whom have vast experience and excellent credentials in their craft. Trent is a CrossFit L-2 Trainer with experience as a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach, while Danielle is a CrossFit L-1 Trainer with hundreds of hours of experience as a yoga teacher. Both trainers are well informed about how the body moves and how to help clients achieve their strength and mobility goals.

If you want to drop in on a session to see if it’s right for you, you need to have at least six months of CrossFit experience. Otherwise, you may find it challenging to keep up. Otherwise, you can become a member and participate in different programs. You may choose to join the Barbell Club, which hosts classes three times a week and focuses on CrossFit concepts as they relate to barbell movements. You can also sign up for a personal training session so that one of the trainers can help you work your way up to join a group class.

First City Fitness

First City Fitness is a gym that offers personal training sessions so you can meet your individual fitness goals, no matter where you may be in terms of your condition. This establishment also offers pole dancing and aerial dancing classes so you can explore fitness in a new and exciting way. All classes are 60-minute sessions, allowing you to get a good workout in while still maintaining your attention. You can sign up as an individual for classes throughout the week, and you can request First City Fitness’ party services if you want to bring a private group.

Hyperformance Athletics

Hyperformance Athletics on Abercorn Street is a gym that offers group and personal training. You can begin your journey with this gym by filling out a simple form that asks for your name and contact information. Soon after you complete your form, a personal trainer will be in touch with you. From there, they will provide you with a free coaching consultation and mobility assessment.

Hyperformance Athletics accepts clients from all backgrounds. Whether you’re just coming off an injury or are in the best shape of your life, they’ll help you establish and meet your personal fitness goals. Your age and athletic experience also don’t matter, as this organization’s trainers have served everyone from stay-at-home moms and elderly individuals to firefighters and soldiers.

You don’t have to only take our word about this gym’s excellence, as Hyperformance won the 2018 Best of the Best Gym Award from the Savannah Morning News. Once you complete your initial assessment, you can start your experience with one of three plans.

The first is the Beginner On-Ramp, which consists of six one-hour sessions or 12 30-minute sessions that help you build your fitness, skills, and knowledge. This option is best if you don’t have any functional fitness experience and haven’t been working out regularly. This gym also offers Intermediate On-Ramp and Advanced coaching sessions, depending on your experience and fitness levels.

If you want to achieve results at the gym, consistency is key. Nothing can interrupt your fitness journey like the lack of reliable transportation.
